Retail POS System for Singapore Stores
Barcode scanning, variants, member pricing and stock across outlets for boutiques, minimarts and specialty retailers.
What a retail POS needs to do
Retail runs on accurate stock. A retail POS should scan quickly, manage variants and barcodes, handle exchanges and show stock across locations, so you reorder the right things and stop tying up cash in slow sellers.
Built on the same platform
ChaChaCha retail uses the same payments, customer and reporting engine as our F&B product, with retail tools on top.
What Singapore retailers need from a POS
Retail margins depend on two things a POS controls directly: how fast you serve a customer and how well you know your stock. A good retail POS system in Singapore should handle both without extra spreadsheets.
- Barcode scanning at the till, using existing barcodes or your own labels
- Product variants such as size, colour and flavour, each with its own stock count
- Member pricing and loyalty points linked to a phone number
- Exchanges and refunds with a clear record against the original sale
- Stock by outlet, transfers between stores and low-stock alerts
- Purchase orders to suppliers from the same system
- PayNow, PayLah!, NETS, cards and GrabPay, with split payments
- Correct 9% GST on receipts and in reports
- Staff permissions for discounts, price overrides and refunds
- Sales sent to Xero for your accountant
Choosing by store type
Retail covers everything from a single boutique to a chain of minimarts. The core is the same; the emphasis changes.
| Store type | What matters most | Typical setup | Page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fashion boutique | Size and colour variants, exchanges, members who come back | POS terminal, barcode scanner, receipt printer, member pricing | /fashion-boutique-pos/ |
| Minimart or grocery | Scanning speed, large catalogues, reordering on time | Terminal with scanner, low-stock alerts, purchase orders, retail kiosk mode for self-checkout | /grocery-minimart-pos/ |
| Specialty store | Product detail, member offers, fewer but higher-value sales | Terminal, scanner, customer history and vouchers | /retail-pos/ |
| Multi-outlet retailer | Stock visibility across stores and central control | Terminals per outlet, stock transfers, head office ERP and reports | /inventory-management/ |
If you also sell food, such as a bakery with packaged goods or a café with a retail shelf, both run on the same system and appear in the same reports.
Inventory and multi-outlet stock
Stock problems cost retailers quietly. Best sellers run out on a Saturday, while slow lines sit in the back room tying up cash. ChaChaCha tracks stock at the variant level, so you know you have three medium blue shirts left, not just 'some shirts'.
See stock in every outlet
Each sale deducts from the outlet where it happened. Head office sees stock across all locations and can transfer items from a store that is overstocked to one that is running low, instead of placing a new order.
Reorder before you run out
Set a minimum level for each product and get a low-stock alert when it is reached. Raise a purchase order to your supplier from the same screen, then receive the goods against it so counts stay accurate.
Know what sells
Reports show sales by product, variant, category and outlet, so you can mark down slow stock early and put more money behind what moves.
Retail kiosk mode and self-checkout
Queues at a single till cost you sales, especially at lunch or after work. Retail kiosk mode turns a self-order kiosk into a self-checkout point: customers scan their items and pay by card on the built-in terminal, while your staff handle customers who need help.
The kiosk uses the same catalogue, prices and stock as your counter, so there is nothing extra to maintain. It suits minimarts and convenience-style stores with a high share of quick, small-basket purchases.
Members and loyalty for repeat shoppers
A retailer's best customers are the ones who come back. Link each member to a phone number at the till, and they can earn loyalty points, get member pricing on selected lines and receive a birthday reward. Stored value and vouchers work in store too.
Because every purchase is recorded against the member, you can see who buys what and how often. With their consent, you can send WhatsApp messages about new arrivals or restocks to the customers most likely to care, instead of discounting to everyone.
Payments at the till: PayNow, PayLah!, NETS, cards and GrabPay
Singapore shoppers expect to pay however they like. ChaChaCha accepts PayNow, PayLah!, NETS, Visa, Mastercard and GrabPay, processed through payment partners including DBS, UOB and 2C2P. A customer can split one purchase across two methods, such as part NETS and part PayNow.
Payments are reconciled automatically against sales, so the end-of-day close shows what you should have received by each method. That saves time at closing and makes it easier to spot a missing settlement.
Retail POS costs and grant support
Your first-year cost depends on the number of tills and outlets, the hardware you need (terminals, scanners, printers, a self-checkout kiosk) and any add-ons. Payment processing fees apply on card and e-wallet transactions. Use our calculator to estimate the cost for your stores, and read our cost guide for what each item covers.
ChaChaCha is powered by AppsPOS Pte. Ltd., which has been a PSG pre-approved vendor and is approved under the EDGE Grant. From 30 September 2026, PSG becomes part of the EDGE Grant, where support for digital solutions such as a retail POS differs by activity. Ask us which grant support applies to your store, and apply before you sign or pay.
Getting started
Setup follows the same steps for most stores:
- A short call and demo to understand your products, outlets and payment needs
- A quotation for your grant application, if you are eligible
- Importing your product catalogue, variants, barcodes and opening stock
- Setting up members, pricing rules and staff permissions
- Installing hardware and training your team on sales, exchanges and closing
If you are moving from another system, bring an export of your products and customer list and we will help load them.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best retail POS system in Singapore?
The best system is the one that matches how your store sells. Look for fast barcode scanning, variants, member pricing, exchanges, stock across outlets and local payments such as PayNow and NETS. Check the full first-year cost, how data is migrated from your old system and what grant support applies.
Can I manage stock across multiple stores?
Yes. Each sale deducts stock from the outlet where it happened, and head office can see stock for every location. You can transfer items between outlets, set low-stock alerts for each product and raise purchase orders to suppliers from the same system, then receive goods against them.
Does it support barcode scanning and my own labels?
Yes. Scan the barcodes already on your products, or create your own for items that do not have one and print labels. Each size, colour or flavour can have its own barcode, so scanning at the till picks the exact variant and deducts the right stock.
Can customers check out on their own?
Yes. Retail kiosk mode turns a self-order kiosk into a self-checkout point. Customers scan their items and pay by card on the kiosk's built-in terminal. It uses the same catalogue, prices and stock as your counter, which suits minimarts and busy stores with many small baskets.
Which payment methods can my store accept?
ChaChaCha accepts PayNow, PayLah!, NETS, Visa, Mastercard and GrabPay, processed through partners including DBS, UOB and 2C2P. Customers can split a purchase across methods. Payments reconcile automatically against sales, so your end-of-day close shows what you should receive by each method.
How do exchanges and refunds work?
Staff look up the original sale and process the exchange or refund against it, so stock and sales figures stay correct. Staff permissions let you decide who can issue refunds or override prices. Every exchange is recorded, which makes it easier to spot patterns such as a product that is often returned.
Can I get grant support for a retail POS?
Possibly, for eligible SMEs. PSG moves into the EDGE Grant from 30 September 2026, where support for digital solutions differs by activity, and applications already submitted under PSG continue to be processed. Ask us which support applies to your store, and apply before you sign or pay. Our cost calculator shows an estimate before and after grant support, and our grant guide explains the change.
